The band

Thirteen horns, doubled percussion. Classic funk, afrofunk and Brazilian samba soul — since 2014.

The largest funk band in the Netherlands was founded in 2014 by Efraïm Trujillo (musical director) and Matthijs Klinkert (alto saxophone) and has become a familiar name in clubs and at festivals, on both the jazz and the pop circuit. Since 2024 the band has been led by Brazilian-born, Netherlands-based Lucas Figueiredo Santana.

The band played North Sea Jazz Festival in 2025, has appeared at De Parade for five seasons, played Goois Jazz Festival and Haarlem Jazz & More, and headlined Flevojazz Festival in Almere in 2022 and 2023.

The band plays classic funk and afrofunk with everything it has. It knows its classics — Fela Kuti, James Brown — but is just as at home in lesser-known funk, such as Brazilian samba soul. The large rhythm section with doubled percussion makes this a band that will not let you stay seated.

Performances with saxophonist Benjamin Herman, singers Steffen Morrison and Denise Jannah, guitarist Anton Goudsmit and vocalists Jared Grant and Lilián Vieira built the band's live reputation. The first album, PURE FICTION, appeared in 2017 with original compositions by Efraïm Trujillo. A Tribute to James Brown followed in 2021 with Jared Grant — a collaboration that grew into a theatre tour that toured the Netherlands in 2023 and 2024. On 16 January 2025 the band presented its third album, recorded with Lilián Vieira: Samba Soul.
