Samba Soul

Brazilian funk is funk taken one step further: samba soul. It is hard to get warmer or more swinging than this. Amsterdam Funk Orchestra plays a programme of its own with Lilián Vieira on vocals, where the influences of James Brown and Parliament meet the cool tropicália of South America. Expect pieces by Gilberto Gil, Banda Black Rio and Seu Jorge, in arrangements Efraïm Trujillo wrote specially for the band.

Lilián Vieira (Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro, 1966) came to the Netherlands at 23 and became a singer of note, in part through her role in the Brazilectro group Zuco 103. She has worked with numerous jazz, soul and funk bands and DJs, and in recent years has returned to her musical roots: popular Brazilian music and classic acoustic samba.
