A Tribute to James Brown

If anyone brought funk to a mass audience, it is the Godfather of Soul. James Brown lives on in collective memory more than ever — through classics like Sex Machine and Cold Sweat, and just as much through the thousands of hip-hop tracks built on samples of Funky Drummer.

Amsterdam Funk Orchestra delivers a blazing tribute, with spectacular arrangements of its own by Efraïm Trujillo. And to do that properly there is really only one person in the Netherlands who can step into James Brown's shoes: Jared Grant. He won the audience award at the Music Matters Awards in 2012, reached the final of The Voice of Holland in 2015 and released his own album Back to my Roots in 2017. The album A Tribute to James Brown appeared in 2021, after which the band toured Dutch theatres and pop venues.
